2011 Property Taxes were billed on October 18, 2011, and are due December 22, 2011 before 5:00 PM. Interest will begin on December 23, 2011 on any unpaid balance and will be added every 23rd day of the month until paid. A $15.00 lien fee will be imposed on unpaid balances 30 days after the due date. A 10% penalty will be imposed on unpaid balances 90 days after due date. WE DO NOT ACCEPT POSTMARKS.
The property tax mill rate for 2011 is 5.351. The City tax is based on 40% of the assessed Fair Market Value which is determined by the Camden County Tax Assessor’s office. If you have any questions regarding the assessment of your property value, you must contact the county tax assessor’s office at (912) 576-3241.
Homestead exemptions must be filed at the county office. Once you have filed the exemption with the county, it will carry over for your city taxes as well.
The City offers a Senior Exemption for ages 65 and above in the amount of $25,000 which is based on the total household income. The resident must be 65 on January 1st of the tax year in order to receive the exemption. An application must be filed at the City of St. Marys Property Tax Office before June 1st in order to verify qualification to receive the Senior Exemption. Once you have completed the application process, you do not have to file every year unless there is a change in your household income.
